JACTIM, Japanese Embassy Celebrate Football, Friendship At Public Screening
KUALA LUMPUR, June 26 (Bernama) -- Football and sporting camaraderie took over diplomatic formalities on Friday morning as more than 100 guests gathered to watch Japan take on Sweden in a public screening of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Group F clash.
The event, organised by the Japanese Chamber of Trade and Industry, Malaysia (JACTIM) in collaboration with the Japanese Embassy in Malaysia, brought together dignitaries, officials from the diplomatic community, as well as representatives from 30 Japanese companies based here to cheer on their favourite teams.
Among them were Kelantan royalty YM Tengku Muhammad Faiz Petra and his wife, Che Puan Sofie Louise Johansson Petra, who attended as special guests.
Also present were ambassadors and high commissioners, or their representatives, from the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and the European Union.
Although the closely contested match ended in a 1-1 draw, Japanese Ambassador to Malaysia Shikata Noriyuki said both teams displayed great determination and sportsmanship throughout the game.
The embassy said the event was not only an opportunity for supporters to cheer on Japan's national football team but also served as a platform to strengthen friendship and goodwill through the shared enjoyment of sport.
The screening was held at a hotel here, with a special viewing area featuring a 200-inch screen set up for guests to enjoy the match in a lively and friendly atmosphere.
